Mentioned in this Episode
Paris Recs from Glynnis!
General:
Velib - I am big on bikes as you likely know. Paris is increasingly bike friendly, and the paths on the main avenues (Rivoli is a great example) are wide and safe. (That said, I'd stick to these unless you are an experienced city biker.)
If you are going to brave the Louvre go early. (Boucher's Odalisque aka the cover of my book is here :))
Obviously everyone loves the Orsay (for good reason!), and the Rodin garden is lovely but keep an eye out for smaller shows.
Everyone has their favorite parks. Mine are Monceau up in the 8th...swanky part of town and very few tourists, though lots of handsome French men jogging :)
Jardin des Plantes in the 5th. Hand to heart, the best selfie light in Paris. Also, I just find it magical.
You probably don't need me to tell you to go to the Luxembourg Gardens.
Food/Drink:
Le Coup d'Oeil - 80 Rue Sedaine, 75011 Paris, France
Natural wines and wonderful small plates on a side street in the 11th. Check to see if you need a reservation
L'Avant Comptoir du Marché - 14 Rue Lobineau, 75006 Paris
All you need to know about this place is that there is a giant mountain of salted butter on the bar. When they give you bread, you go over and take as much of the butter as you want. (Also amazing wine and small plate selection...I once ordered a towering plate of prosciutto inspired by the pig that hangs from the ceiling and I'm still thinking about it. But also, butter).
Hardware Societe (18th) - BEST Brunch, not just in Paris, but possibly anywhere. Also I have a crush on the chef Jesse. It's behind the Sacre Coeur and DELICIOUS eggs. Their egg burratta is incredible and hot chocolate is insanely good too (tho not as good as Cafe Flore).
Clamato (11th)- Make a reservation. Lunch as good as dinner. One of the best meals I've had.
Buvette (9th) - I love it so much more than the NYC location. Great break and lunch.
For Kids:
City Pools - some like Piscine Jean Taris have separate kid pools. French rules require men wear tight suits but you can buy suits, caps, and goggles in the vending machines
Aquaboulevard - indoor water park just outside city limits - fun and few tourists
Jardin Luxembourg playground and carousel (city’s oldest) cost money but worth it plus les guignols (puppet shows)
Menagerie du Jardin des Plantes - small zoo inside the Jardin des Plantes
Cite des Enfants au Parc de La Villette - the children's museum, science museum, small aquarium, and planetarium
Boat ride on the Seine is always good
Ice Cream: Berthillion on Ile St Louis
Drink: Hot chocolate at Cafe Angelique
Going to movies in another country is fun! Look for English movies marked V.O. (Version Originale) - will be in English with French subtitles.
