Kate: It is. This is the gift guide for 2022,
Doree: And as we mentioned, I think on Friday's episode, we're taking the rest of the week off, so we're going to be running reruns of a couple of our fave episodes, but we thought we would leave you with this little gift as it were before Thanksgiving. And yeah, we've picked out some stuff that we really like, some stuff that Kate has already bought. We'll get to that in a bit.
Kate: We'll get to that. Some things that we want,
Doree: Some things that we want.
Kate: And would make great gifts.
Doree: Hint, hint. Yeah, and I think it goes without saying that we're all, I think I speak for both of us when I say that we're always trying to cut down on consumerism and I think the best gift is a secondhand gift. So I do just wanna put that out there. And I know I've been trying to utilize more of buy sell trade groups and my buy nothing group and Poshmark, et cetera, et cetera.
Kate: We're trying to find the balance.
Doree: Yes, try to find the balance and I hope that we can normalize also giving and receiving secondhand gifts.
Kate: Yes, that SNL sketch about the candle that keeps getting passed around that beautiful country song about the candle. I feel like we mentioned that every year in the gift guide.
Doree: Well, I'm not even talking about re-gifting.
Kate: Well, but re-gifting could normalize too,
Doree: Which is Yes, totally. And I think we've actually come out strongly in favor of normalizing, but I'm just talking about normalizing buying something secondhand for someone.
Kate: Fair. Yes, a hundred percent. Hundo P Doree, hundo P
Doree: That is just my little disclaimer before we get into some new things that you can buy.
Kate: Let's hop right in.
Doree: Let's hop right in.
Kate: All right. We've got a couple beauty skincare items to kick things off because we do love a serum around here. I wanted to share a product that I have been trying. It was it's Muri Lelu's Full Flower Ritual Discovery Kit. This is a limited edition kit for $125. You get their Bloomrise Sativa Serum and their Mauvalse Herbe Indica Oil. And if you recognize any of those words, you're right, this is a hemp skincare line. You can check out their website. They answer the question why hemp? But these products are a lovely, I am really enjoying them. I've been using them in the morning and in the night, and I feel like this is a fun gift, but, for the skincare person who has everything. This I think is something they haven't tried or I think it's great if you've got a cannabis lover in your life. So there you go.
Doree: Oh, and we should mention that on their website, they do say that they ship to all 50 states.
Kate: Perfect.
Doree: So I'm assuming there's no like THC in these products since they can ship to all 50 states.
Kate: Yes. Doree, I believe that these are hemp, hemp-based skincare.
Doree: Hemp-based prods. Okay.
Kate: Yes, Hemp-based
Doree: Okay. I have a prod that has shown up on our gift guide before, but it's just so good that I feel like I need to bring it back. And it's the Hanahana Shea body butter and it's like, it's so good. It's the perfect, rich, thick body butter. It comes in a bunch of different scents and I think they've added some since the last time we mentioned this. And they have unscented, which I love. They have amber vanilla, lavender vanilla, eucalyptus, bamboo coconut, lemon grass. They have a holiday set, they have a best seller set. So there's all kinds of little sets you can get from them.
Kate: Do I need this? I've never tried this. And you recommend it all the time.
Doree: I think it's so great. So yes, I think you should try it. They also have some other products that I've never tried. They have an exfoliating cleanser, they have a lip balm I believe they have, they have a body bar, a soap kind of thing. So while you're there, maybe you'll pick something else up. And most of their body butters are $28-$30. There's a couple that are 30, but most of them are 28. So great gift.
Kate: All right, last on the skincare list is the introduction set from Lanshin. Now we had Sandra Lanshin Chiu on the podcast. She is amazing. She's a practitioner of Gua Sha and you can learn so much from her YouTube videos. Her products are fantastic. This kit comes with their introduction Gua Sha tool from Lanshin an Apoterra Rose Nourishing Face Oil. And then one of my favorite skincare products, which I sprayed on my face this morning. Josh Rosebrooks Hydrating Accelerator. I think, I feel like there are a lot of questions about how to get into Gua Sha and I personally think that she is the expert we should be turning to. I love her products. I use her Gua Sha tools. So I wanted to share this kit. It's $110 and 50 cents.
Doree: And Kate, I know I said we have a lot of things, but there's one more thing I do wanna add that is also, also a repeat gift guide feature. It's the 54 Thrones African Beauty Butter Collection Deluxe Tin.
Kate: I love this stuff.
Doree: And this is already, this is a great gift. It comes in this cute little tin and it comes with their different various like scents, vanilla honey, lavender mint, blue tanzi and chamomile hibiscus, and rose, and lemongrass and palmarosa. So this is another an easy gift.
Kate: Their Beauty Butter
Doree: I gave it to her and she loved it.
Kate: I love it. They're beauty butters are just like delicious, delicious, really nourishing moisturizers, especially for the winter.
Doree: I might just order that for myself right now.
Kate: I know. I honestly was like, oh, I'm going to get. This gift guide is basically how can we two people who are like, let's try not to spend a lot of money, spend money on ourselves. On that note books, a couple book prods on the list this year. Okay. I, I'm really excited about this one because I just got a copy. It's a book from past forever35 guest, friend of the pod artist behind our beautiful logo, Ann Shen, her new book, Revolutionary Women, 50 Women of Color Who Reinvented the Rules. It's $24. It's a beautiful, gorgeous hardcover book. Her artwork is amazing but she also just shares such interesting information about these women. It's just fantastic Ann herself is a gift. But since please get the book is the book is equally as wonderful. It's Anne in a book form.
Doree: Relatedly, I also do just wanna put in a plug, if you are a Disney person,
Kate: oh My God, yes
Doree: Ann has collections at Disney. She has ones that you can, I think are exclusive to Disneyland, but then there's also ones that you can buy on shopdisney.com. She did AristoCats Artist series collection, like the cutest little pitcher and some plates and it's really cute. So if you're into Disney, it's, it's a really fun way to get some Disney stuff. There's a pet bowl, there's a lantern, there's like all kinds of very cute stuff. It's
Kate: Like chic Disney adult stuff. Yes, totally. That not everybody is going to have, and you can enjoy it even if you're not a Disney adult. It's just beautiful.
Doree: Yes. So we love Ann and I just wanted to mention that as well as her wonderful book.
Kate: Good call. Doree.
Doree: Thank you.
Kate: I did wanna include a couple romance book club boxes. The Ripped Bodice, I mean, boy, I'm pulling from a lot of past guests on the pod, but the Ripped Bodice, it's fantastic bookstore here.
Doree: We talk to so many great guests.
Kate: I know iI mean, this is really just a tribute to the amazing people we speak with. They have an amazing book club box called Read Romance Repeat. They have a six month subscription that you can get on their website. I also wanted to shout out the Steamy Lit Steam Box. So this is a book subscription service that quote features romance books written by women of color and lgbtq+ authors paired with specially curated items that celebrate self-love and embrace your sexuality. We're talking vibes, baby.
Doree: Oh, hello.
Kate: And you can order one of their quarterly boxes for $110. They also have a year long subscription. But I thought this could be a great gift for a romance reader, for a person who needs little self-love for the holidays. What's better than that?
Doree: Yeah. Oh, that's fun. I wish I knew of a great mystery subscription box. But I don't, there are some, but don't, I dunno. They don't look great if I'm being honest.
Kate: Be honest. Maybe you need to make one.
Doree: There's one called My Thrill Club, but it doesn't look exactly like it includes horror. It's not exactly my kind of thing. There's also a Reader's Digest subscription box for the best mysteries of all time. But I don't, don't know. That's also not really what I'm looking for. So if you know of a good mystery book club that I, Doree Shafrir would be interested in, please let me know. Okay, Kate?
Kate: Yes.
Doree: We're going to take a short break before we get to our next category because it's a big one.
Kate: Okey dokey. BRB,
Doree: It's the home category. Just to tease that a little bit.
Kate: Ooh, titillating
Doree: All right, we'll be right back. Okay, we're back with the home category as promised. Kate, do you wanna talk about your first thing on this list?
Kate: Yeah, so I'm going to hold these up to you because I have two of these on my desk right now. Do you see I've burned them into oblivion. These are two candles from Snif
Doree: Kate. I'm holding up mine.
Kate: Hold on, let me see. Oh, off the grid. That's one I've almost burned down to the bottom. I fucking love these candles. Okay. That's just it. I know I'm a candle head. I know I talk a lot about candles. These are delicious. So I'm specifically obsessed with these 2 scents, Off the Grid and Instant Karma. They have a snif candle bundle kit for $105. And the really, really cool thing I think about this brand is that they have a Try It home program. So you can try the candles and then decide which ones you like and wanna keep. And I really appreciate this because it's so hard to buy scents without smelling them. It's wild that we even try to do this. So I really, really appreciate that they offer it this way. And I can just tell you, these are two excellent smells. I'm obsessed with them. I will be ordering more love, love hard love.
Doree: I also really these candles. So this is something endorsed by both of us.
Kate: All right. Take it away.
Doree: Oh, alright. So I love the MoMA store in general for gifts for kind of quirky, artsy gifts. And they have a lot of home stuff. And they did a collab with Dusen Dusen, which is this small fashion line, and they made the cutest tissue box $40, which is kind of a lot for a tissue box, but not that much, if you're looking for a cute gift for someone you're sort of friends with. Do you know what I mean?
Kate: Yeah, yes. Like a cute home. Cause this is actually a great housewarming gift.
Doree: It's a great housewarming gift. It's something that people probably don't already have
Kate: And they're not going to buy it for themselves.
Doree: They probably wouldn't buy it for themselves because again, it's like $40 for tissue box. Like, eh, But it's really cool. It's really cute and I love it. It comes in two different color ways. Yeah. So this is another really cute gift that I really liked.
Kate: All right, next up we're moving into what we're just going to call the mug section of this episode. We've got three mugs here to talk about. The first one is the Ember mug. You've probably seen this online. It's the temperature control mug. They sent us some of these to try. I basically use mine every day. It's fantastic. Fantastic.
Doree: Yes. May I interrupt you? Because they also sent me one
Kate: Yes, ma'am
Doree: And I do love it, but it's open and I feel like I am too clumsy to have an open mug by my computer. Does this not freak you out?
Kate: I don't drink coffee by my computer. I drink it.
Doree: Oh, okay.
Kate: You and I are, you and I are on different schedules. I drink it starting at, okay. I wake up at 6:30. I walk and get, fill my mug, I bring it back to bed, then I meander and get everybody out of the house.
Doree: Okay,
Kate: So by 8:30- 9 I'm done with coffee. It's a different vibe. Oh wow. So the emer mug keeps your drink warm it, there is a battery within the mug, so you're essentially charging the cup and it sits on this little tiny tray to charge. And then when it's not on the tray, it has a battery life. So it will keep your drink warm for a good chunk of time, which is why I can wander around my house every morning dealing with my kids and my coffee just stays hot. I believe it. It stays hot for up to 80 minutes with the one that I have, which is the 40 ounce.
Doree: Its very cool.
Kate: And when it's on the charging coaster, it just, it's just warm. The battery's just going and it will indicate via the little light on the mug when the beverage is at its perfect temp
Doree: And you can set the perfect temp also.
Kate: So it's great. I wanna get it for my dad for Christmas, when he was here visiting, I was like, do you like this? Would you want this? Would you use this? Look, my coffee's still hot. I don't have to microwave it all day long because that's what he does. He just zaps one cup of coffee for eight hours a day.
Doree: I mean, I have also been known to do that.
Kate: Like, I mean, fair
Doree: I mean, it's not the best tasting, I should say.
Kate: That's true. I true.
Doree: Don't think it matters but it's not especially delicious to be constantly drinking reheated coffee.
Kate: Well, Doree, let me tell you about my other favorite mug product. Okay. So this came into my life via my husband who received it as a gift. It is called the Carter Move Mug and splash guard from a company called Fellow. Never heard of this. It is a travel mug, but if you know me, I like to bring a fully open mug into the car. So I will bring a ceramic mug or my ember mug into my vehicle, and then drive over speed bumps, taking my children to school and splash the coffee everywhere.
Doree: See this,
Kate: I know
Doree: This blows my mind,
Kate: But there are a lot of us out there. And part of it is because I like the experience.
Doree: What? There are?
Kate: Yes, yes.
Doree: No.
Kate: Oh yes. Our friend, Elizabeth Holmes has done put this on Instagram and people chime in because she's like, I can't understand how people do this. And all of us free muggers are like, here we are. Free mugging in the car,
Doree: Free muggers.
Kate: I'm a free mugger. I'm a free mugger.
Doree: Oh my God. Well, but here's, you know what? I am with Elizabeth on this.
Kate: That's fine. But listen, I have found, you have to hear me out. I have found a solution for free muggers and for non-free muggers. And it's this freaking Carter move-in mug and splash guard. So it's a Tumblr. So I don't drinking my coffee out of a weird tiny cap. I like drinking it out of a full cup rim. I realize this is specific. Okay, but it's me.
Doree: Alright. Okay. Okay.
Kate: So this is a travel coffee cup that comes as a Tumblr. So it's open, but then there's this little splash guard that almost looks like the thing you put in a sink to prevent food from going down the drain.
Doree: Oh Yeah.
Kate: You put it on top of the mug and it prevents the coffee from splashing everywhere. So you can drink from an open mug with a this splash guard. It's the most, it's genius. I see. This product is genius. It comes in a bunch of different colors. I believe that we have the 12 ounce. Again, Anthony's never touched it. I scooped this thing up and I was like, this is mine now, baby. So I love this thing. I love it.
Doree: That is clever. I will give you that. It is clever.
Kate: It works so well.
Doree: I have another mug suggestion, which is and this is something I would not bring in a car.
Kate: See, I would bring this in the car
Doree: Personally. Food 52, great website. Our dear friend of the pod and friend, IRL Elizabeth Olson is the creative director over there. They have really cute mugs and they carry recreation center, which is this very cool handmade line of pottery that is kind of hard to get. So they have a bundle. We're going to link to one of them. It might be sold out because it's limited edition, but you can just look at all the rest of their mugs and I'm sure you'll find something really cute. But this one that we're going to link to, it's called Xs and O's.
Kate: Cute.
Doree: And it's super cute. It's super cute. I mean, I don't need a lot of mugs, but you know what? I'm also realizing as we're talking about mugs, I think I had a dream last night. We broke a bunch of mugs.
Kate: What? You and me? Or you and Matt?
Doree: No, I think Henry, maybe. I don't remember. But this is very, it's it's weird right now because I'm like, wait,
Kate: You're having dream deja vu.
Doree: Ha. Yeah, because I'm also, that didn't actually happen. I didn't actually break a bunch of mugs
Kate: Or did it. It feels so real.
Doree: The other mug that I also just wanna rec as a fun gift is the Yeti the Rambler. And you can personalize it, which is a cute kind of thing to do. You know what I mean? I love a little personalized gift.
Kate: Oh Yeah, totally.
Doree: So that's something really fun that you can do. And I have the Rambler mug, the old, my only issue with the Rambler mug, and I do love it, is that it doesn't fit in a cup holder.
Kate: That's why you've gotta get a Stanley baby.
Doree: I have a Stanley. I also have another Yeti mug that does fit in a cup holder. It is a Tumblr. But I like when I'm in my home, when I'm in my home, I like to drink out of the Rambler because it is like, it's an actual mug with a little handle
Kate: What I'm hearing from us. We have a full on mug problem, possibly a mug addiction.
Doree: Do we?
Kate: Yeah, we love mugs. And then there's the extended world.
Doree: Whats not to love?
Kate: Where you get numerous versions of cups, numerous travel cups. I mean, there's nothing, I mean, they're great. I think a mug is a perfect gift. I don't care how many mugs people have, you can always take another mug on.
Doree: That's what I'm saying. And I think they make a good gift. They make a good gift because people like to collect different types of mugs. So I'm just going to say that. Okay,
Kate: Listen, we are pro mug around here.
Doree: We're a prom mug over here.
Kate: All right. Moving on to just a quick little organizational item that I think I resisted for so long. I thought certainly these aren't better than the other things. Turns out they are, turns out they are.
Doree: I hate when that happens.
Kate: Oh my God, it made me so angry. I'm talking about cadence capsules. I'm sure you've seen these little customizable magnetic capsules for everything from pills to products that you wanna bring along when you travel. Here's the deal. They're great. They're durable, they pack easily. You can change up the lids. They're just, unfortunately they're as good as you think they're going to be, which is great. You want them to be good. So you can get this sick kit of six for 76 bucks, even if you just wanted to make a little stock stocking stuffer and throw one in a little goodie bag for somebody. It's a $14 per capsule. They're pricey, but they're worth it. They're the kind of thing that you're like, oh, I'm here now. I'm never going to go back to the other stuff.
Doree: I never wanna believe that things advertise to me on Facebook or Instagram are actually good.
Kate: No, I know. It fully gets under my skin when they are. Yeah, but you know what? Hats off to you. Cadence. You did it. You did it.
Doree: Yeah. Nice job. Cadence
Kate: All right. Let's talk about some kid prods Doree.
Doree: Okay, let's do that. Now you have tweens.
Kate: Oh boy.
Doree: And I have a toddler. So we are thinking about kids of different ages, but we're going to give this our best shot. The first thing that I wanted to rec is LED photos, string lights. I hear that LED lights are all the rage, amongst the youth. But what I liked about this is that if your kid has a Polaroid or Instamax camera, and I think a lot of them do, you can take those pictures and they have little clips and you can clip them. So it's like this cool wall of lights and photos.
Kate: And kids these days are using what they call disposables and they go and buy the disposable cameras of yester year and take photos with them. So this is perfect for all those cool Gen Zers out there who are using their disposables.
Doree: Wait, but are the photos instant or
Kate: No? No, no. We're talking developed. They have to get them developed. There was a sign at the Harry Styles concert I was at, that said pose for my disposable question mark. It's a thing. Disposables are a thing amongst the Youngs.
Doree: That is so funny.
Kate: I know. Right
Doree: That's so funny.
Kate: I love and this is a request for, my daughter actually got this for her birthday, a cinema light box. She wanted one of these light box, light box things where you can write little catchy phrases on them. And I found one over at Uncommon Goods, which is a place I love to shop. They have a color changing cinema light box. I got my almost 12 year old, the mini one and this is such a great gift, my kids, anything that lights up,
Doree: Kate, can I just put in a plug for our Uncommon Goods code for excellent adventure?
Kate: Yes. Because I just bought a bunch of stuff off of there. I wish I had used it.
Doree: Well, you should have used our code.
Kate: Damn it. Okay. What is it?
Doree: You just have to go to uncommongoods.com/adventure and you get 15% off.
Kate: Oh my God. Are you kidding?
Doree: No, I'm not kidding.
Kate: Damnit. Okay, thank you. I'm going to be buying more, but you'll hear I bought a bunch, bunch of presents from there already.
Doree: I know. Their stuff is really cute.
Kate: Their stuff is great.
Doree: Yeah, it's great. It's great stuff.
Kate: Well, I did want, just wanna throw out there, I'm probably getting this from my nephew. They make personalized books for small aged children. So for example, my nephew Will loves trucks, so I was going to get this truck book, and they personalize it by adding their name into the book throughout the book, which I thought was really cool and kind of a nice touch to get for a little kid in your life where you're like, I don't know where I get this little kid.
Doree: Totally.
Kate: It has an added bonus with the name thing, but it's still an easy gift.
Doree: Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Kate: I have a couple more thoughts. One is I did wanna just recommend my family's favorite card game. Definitely my favorite. My family's probably sick of it by now. It's called 3Up3Down. It's 12 bucks. It's a great easy gift stocking stuff. Or gift. Or gift bag gift. Or also just like, Hey I'm in this gift exchange with you and I don't know you. Here's this card game. It's so much fun. I also wanted to suggest stickers. Now I know you're like, what? Do kids collect stickers and sticker books these days? And the answer is no. They put them on water bottles and also probably phones and whatever other gadgets they have. But my kids both specifically asked for "water bottle stickers" for Christmas.
Doree: Wow.
Kate: I know. So I was doing some research and I happened to find this company called Big Moods, bigmoods.com, which seems very, very cool. And they have a sticker club sticker subscription box, which I think could be an especially fun kind of twist to give tween or teen in your life who wants stickers.
Doree: That is so cool.
Kate: Then of course Doree, you have here, Kiwi Co. Our sponsor.
Doree: Yes. So, we'll be talking about this probably in the next Kiwi Co ad, but Henry just got a new box from them, and when I say he was obsessed with it,
Kate: Oh boy.
Doree: It was this little chemistry set where you had to mix different colored things together and it would fizz. It was a baking soda, citric acid kind of, combination vinegar combination thing. He loved it.
Kate: Really?
Doree: He loved it. Yes. He was so into it, and it made me wanna do more science experiments with him because I think he really likes that stuff. So I did just wanna give a shout out to Kiwi Co because their boxes, they really are the gift that keeps on giving. If you will.
Kate: They are. I, again, I've gifted these to like every child in my life, they're the best.
Doree: So we do have a code with them right now. You just go to kiwico.com/forever35. The offer is your first month of any crate line free. So that's kinda fun.
Kate: Very nice.
Doree: And then the last, I did also just wanna add one more thing, which is something that I think I'm going to get for Henry, which is the Yoto Player. He does not have it yet, but I wanna get it for him. It's basically a little iPod and you get little cards to put in it with different stories and music and all kinds of stuff.
Kate: Very cute.
Doree: So, so people I know who have it. Love it. Yeah, so it looks like the, there's a Yoto Player and a Yoto Mini, and I don't totally know what the difference is but it looks like the Yoto player is on back order right now, but the mini is available. So Kate, we're going to take another break and when we come back, we're going to be talking about games and puzzles. Oh yeah.
Kate: Your favorite topic.
Doree: My favorite topic. All right, we'll be right back. All right. We have returned with puzzles.
Kate: This is actually is more of a fidget toy. I actually have it in my hand right now and I don't know, oh, you probably can't see Doree. But I spend all of our recordings playing with this.
Doree: Cool.
Kate: For my fellow adults with the old ADD or people who just need to fidget. I'm obsessed with my Speks Magnet balls. I actually bought them for my children last year and for myself. And I use them more than they do. It sits at my desk all day. It's an amazing fidget. It's like sensory fidget toy. I love them. I just bought myself. They're magnet putty. These things average around the $30 range. And it reminds me of in the eighties when people had so many gadgets on their desks in corporate offices that I would see on tv. Didn't remember that thing with the balls that would knock back and forth.
Doree: Yes. I do remember those.
Kate: I think that has an official name. But yeah, this is just the elevated version of that.
Doree: That's really fun. Okay, so another gift from Uncommon Goods.
Kate: Really taking the cake here.
Doree: This is one of the ones that you bought. That I think is so cool. You can get a personalized crossword. And Kate has already bought this for her husband. I think that's okay to say because he doesn't listen to the podcast.
Kate: No. Can you imagine if he tuned into this episode and found out. Which is you know what, that's on him. He doesn't listen to the podcast.
Doree: That would be funny. What if he was like, oh, I wanted to get some ideas.
Kate: I mean, he wouldn't be wrong. I would end up with 50 Snif candles and a sea of books. It'd be great.
Doree: So you can personalize the name of the game and then you create six original clues based on the person that you're giving it to. And then they kind of integrate that with the rest of the clues, and they get high, your special clues get highlighted,
Kate: So you get six clues. Again, I was reading our gift guide sheet, looking through it and adding to it, and then I was like, huh, this looks interesting. Cuz Doree had added it and then I went and bought it. So I'm very excited. This is the kind of thing you should order now because it's, it's so personalized. I think it takes a while to get. So if you're interested, order it now. Yeah. Cuz I think mine's not coming here, getting here till mid December.
Doree: Oh, okay. Yeah, so get on that
Kate: Get on it. But it's a great gift for your cruciverbalist
Doree: Okay, my next suggestion, is kind of in kind of intense. Did you look at this, Kate?
Kate: No, I didn't. I can't. Should I click? Should I click? Look at it?
Doree: Yeah, take a look at it.
Kate: Okay. Hold on. Pure white. Oh no, Doree. Is this an all white puzzle?
Doree: Yes.
Kate: Okay. This gives me fucking anxiety. I'm going to get this for you.
Doree: It's called the Micro Pure White Hell Jigsaw puzzle.
Kate: It's a thousand pieces
Doree: And they're all white.
Kate: This is hell. Why would you torture somebody? This is a, you know what though, as I'm saying this, I wanna get this from my friend who's a jigsaw puzzler. It's like a joke gift that she would do.
Doree: The reviews are like evil puzzle. And then there's one review on Amazon that says, I bought this puzzle and realized early on that I'd lost two pieces. I practice radical acceptance and went on to complete the puzzle.
Kate: And then they framed it.
Doree: Another review says, kill me now.
Kate: Mom hates it. 10 out of 10. These reviews are so great. Okay.
Doree: So I feel like this is something to get for someone who is really into puzzles.
Kate: It's a challenge, for sure.
Doree: Totally. You don't wanna get this for the casual puzzler. You wanna get this for the person who's super into puzzles. Okay. And then I did have one more puzzle suggestion because I did this puzzle recently and I posted it on my Instagram and I got so many people asking me where it was from.
Kate: The birds.
Doree: The birds. So it is a Galison puzzle, and they make the most beautiful puzzles. I love all of their puzzles. It's called the Avian Friends Puzzle. It's 16 birds, different birds, and they're really pretty. It's a thousand piece puzzle. It's like challenging but not super hard. And it's $16.99, although I feel like it's usually on sale. And yeah, it's a great puzzle and it looks really pretty when it's done.
Kate: Is it of the easy, medium or hard difficulty level?
Doree: I would say medium hard.
Kate: Okay. Medium hard. Okay. These are beautiful puzzles.
Doree: It's not the hardest puzzle you'll ever do, but there's some challenging aspects to it because there's a lot of spaces that are just one color.
Kate: I'm already annoyed. That's hard.
Doree: And then the other thing that I did just wanna mention since this is the Games and puzzle section is I recently bought my own poker set.
Kate: Nice.
Doree: The Fat Cat Poker set.
Kate: You're so cool.
Doree: It's Real, I should say though, it's really heavy. It comes in a silver case. You kind of look like you're walking around a briefcase of cash, which might be cool or not depending on your vibe but the chips are really, they're nicely weighted. In fact, the first time we played with it, the people I was playing with were like, Ooh, these chips are nice. So it's like a nice poker set and there's enough, there's also enough chips for a big game. If you wanna play a 10 person game, there would be enough chips. So that's always fun. You never know when you're going to have a 10 person poker game.
Kate: God. Yeah, that could be fun. That's huge. That'd be wild.
Doree: The, it's the Fat Cat Poker set. The list price is $70, $69.99. I have seen it on sale usually for around $40. So I would say that's probably around what you're going to pay.
Kate: I love that. Doree.
Doree: Oh, thank you so much. Okay, moving on to some food gifts. The first thing that I'm going to suggest is the Fly by Jing, Sichuan Chili Crisp. People are obsessed with this stuff, and I mean it's pretty, it's pretty mainstream now, but I think for a while it was a real if you know, you know, kind of gift. But now in addition to just getting the regular jar of it, they have a box that you can also get, and it's a gift box and it comes with the Sichuan Chili Crisp, the Chili Crisp Vinagerette, the Extra Spicy Chili Crisp, the Zong sauce, the Mala Spice mix. And then they have a bunch of other different assortments of their products in gift sets. So I think that's a fun, if already, if you already know that someone loves their Chili Crisp, you can get them one of the gift sets as well.
Kate: Oh I want all of this, I want this. Okay. I really do hope Anthony listens to this episode. Well, speaking of my husband here's something that he bought himself that he loves, that I decided to include in the gift guide. If you've got someone who loves cocktails, he has really enjoyed the Shaker and Spoon subscription box, and they have all sorts of goodies, but basically it comes with a recipe and all the acoutremous for interesting cocktails. And he gets it every month. And last time he was like here the other day, he was like, here's this Apple crisp, blah, blah, blah. He had made that was quite delicious. They're very cool. So if you have somebody who is into the kind of arts and crafts that come with cocktail making, this is a perfect gift. This is, my husband's basically like a chemist when it comes to making cocktails. He gets very into it and the different flavors and the spices and everything. So yeah, he loves it. Doree, do you wanna tell us about this experience that you've added to the list?
Doree: I sure do. So Jessamyn Stanley, another former guest,
Kate: Nailing it, we are nailing it.
Doree: Jessamyn has a yoga subscription and it's on her website, theunderbelly.com, and it's $10 a month and then you get access to all of her classes and some other stuff. She also has a 14 day free trial, so you can check it out if you're not sure about it. And then I also wanna mention that Jessamyn has an OnlyFans, and if you subscribe to her there, you get her doing Naked Yoga.
Kate: Ooh, fun. I'm into it.
Doree: So two options to take yoga classes with Jessamyn, clothed or naked.
Kate: I've never done yoga naked and I actually feel like it would be very liberating and fun.
Doree: Well, maybe this is going to be your entree into OnlyFans, Kate.
Kate: Maybe it is.
Doree: Unless you already subscribe and I don't know,
Kate: I have not subscribed to an OnlyFans, but you better believe I've thought about it.
Doree: Well, maybe this is a sign. Just saying. Alright, now onto one of my favorite categories, the cheapest stuff from Fancy Brands. Kate, take it away.
Kate: Okay. I found a couple things this year. Now, I don't know if this is the cheapest thing from each of these brands, but there are two things that are on the more affordable end that would make very cute gifts. The first is from a classic ye old Tiffany's, look, I'm a basic ass dork and if you hand a Tiffany's box over to me, I'm going to fucking get excited no matter what. I don't care. Like there could be nothing in it and I would be excited. But they have the Elsa Peretti Open Heart Key Ring. I've seen this on a bunch of gift guides because it's $75. It's actually a really beautiful and functional key chain or key ring, Elsa Peretti stuff from Tiffany's is always really gorgeous. And it's present from Tiffany's, like, what more can you ask for? You got that cute little blue box with the white bow. The other thing that I'm obsessed with is the herb planter from Le Creuset, now, or Le Creuset, I guess, if you wanna be accurate. But I'm an American, I apologize. I had no idea. They made planters in the same beautiful style as their cookware. It's a five and a half inch pot and it comes in there, it comes in the same stoneware that you might see glazed. You can pick a color. It's a $32 planter. So it's an affordable Le Creuset piece that you could give someone. You could pot it with your favorite herb. Put a little basil in there, make a nice little holiday gift.
Doree: That's so cute. That's so cute.
Kate: Yeah, they're beautiful. I'm obsessed. I really as usual want one. I I've got a problem. I like everything that we suggest.
Doree: Oh my gosh.
Kate: Ugh. That brings us to the end.
Doree: It does.
Kate: We've gifted.
Doree: I hope you all enjoyed this edition of The Gift Guide.
Kate: You can find our other ones linked on our website from past years.
Doree: And yeah, let us know what you get.
Kate: Yeah. And let us let Doree know about that mystery book, subscription box.
Doree: Yeah. Please do. All right everyone,
Kate: Happy holidays.
Doree: Happy holidays. Bye.
