Kate: <affirmative>

Doree: For my packing list for my trip coming up. Oh,

Kate: Your independent trip. The trip that you get to take alone. Can you tell I'm jealous. Can you tell I'm jealous

Doree: <affirmative>.

Kate: The thought of being alone sounds wonderful. How are you feeling? Why did you need to make a list? Yes, it does. It sounds amazing. I don't know. Are you feeling anxious? What's going on over there?

Doree: I think I am feeling a little anxious because I keep shopping for the trip.

Kate: <affirmative>, I noticed this because you did send me some trip outfits,

Doree: <laugh>, but I keep buying things in returning them. <affirmative>, like the thing that I showed you, I returned, returned one size and then I decided, you know what? I don't want this at all. I'm gonna return both. And I bought a completely different outfit and then I decided I needed a belt bag of course. So as one does, I found one, bought it, ordered it. And then I was like, I don't know. So I ordered a different one and then I was like, maybe I need a different backpack. I'm really spiraling. I feel like I'm gonna end up returning all of this stuff. <laugh>.

Kate: Well, and this is money that you haven't budgeted to spend on the trip. It is just kind of that weird feeling of, I'm going on a trip, I need things even though you may already have things. Yes, I'm doing this too because my family is going away on a trip and I'm also doing this. And it's a very, What is this? What do we think this is a sign of?

Doree: I think it's just, I don't know, anxiety about the trip. I think travel traveling zone often travel anxiety. I think sometimes we as people, or I should say if I'm having anxiety about something coming up when my book was coming out and I feel like you did this too. Oh

Kate: Yeah,

Doree: I hopped <affirmative>, which is not great. I'm not saying this to brag. <laugh> <laugh>. And I think I got really fixated on my plane outfit and I was like, I need an outfit for the plane. I'm just like, what am I talking about <laugh>? Who am I? <laugh>.

Kate: So when I traveled to

Doree: New York plane outfit, I

Kate: Did this story. Cause I told you, when you showed me the photo of your plane outfit, I said, I have a very much the same outfit that I bought for a plane. What is that?

Doree: I don't You

Kate: Know what it is. Wait, I actually do know what it is. I think I know what it is.

Doree: What is it?

Kate: It's the relentless pressure of influencer culture telling us, which I don't just mean looking at our Instagram feed everywhere. There is a vibe right now of folks traveling in stylish athleisure wear that isn't like mm-hmm <affirmative>, their workout clothes. But it's not their regular clothes. It's some sort of elevated sweatsuit situation. We've upgraded the sweatsuits from March, 2020 and certain, certainly when I am looking, scrolling through my various feeds, the people I am seeing who are not people I know in real life and who sell shit for a living on their feeds are all wearing stylish matching outfits on planes. First of all, where are they all going? Number one can, Every plane I've been on has been canceled. But two, I think that's it. That the curse of capitalism where you're like, Oh, I need this now because I'm seeing it everywhere. And also it does look comfortable and it looks good.

Doree: So I don't know, I guess I'll report back. I mean, am sort of interested to see A, what I end do end up actually keeping, and B, if the stuff that I keep, I feel actually does make my plane experience better.

Kate: <affirmative> <affirmative>.

Doree: Because the last time I was on a plane, I wore some stuff that I thought was going to be a good plane outfit and it kind of wasn't. The pants were just a little too thick and I wore a button down shirt, which I didn't love. And it's just like, I don't know, Kate. I'm also trying to pack super light for this trip. So I'm going for four nights and I'm gonna be kind of bopping around seeing people and seeing some family going to a large sporting event, <laugh>. And I'm like, I think I can get away with my plain outfit.

Kate: <affirmative>

Doree: To dresses a t-shirt and a pair of shorts and pajamas and underwear.

Kate: Doree

Doree: I and a pair of

Kate: Sneakers that I wear. Love it.

Doree: A pair of sneakers I wear on the plane and a pair of slip on sandals the end.

Kate: Oh my God. I'm horny for this packing list because it's so minimalistic. <laugh> literally turned on.

Doree: I think I'm going to wear the one the, I'm gonna bring one, one of my long printed calf tan dresses,

Kate: <affirmative> <affirmative>, perfect with the sand.

Doree: And yes, I land Thursday afternoon, I'll probably get to my friend's house in Brooklyn by four I'm gonna estimate. And then I'm supposed to have dinner with a friend. I'll change out of my plain clothes. I'll probably take a shower. I'll put on, I'll wear my calf tan dress for dinner. Then the next day I'll wear my calf tan dress again. And then Saturday I'm gonna wear my other dress for the sporting event. The other dress is white. So I want to just, I wanna keep it for Saturday <laugh>, not you.

Kate: Yeah, but you wanna say the staining ability? Staining

Doree: It. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. And then Sunday and Monday, I'll just see how I'm feeling. But I'll wear one or the other dresses and then I'll just have the t-shirt and shorts in case I just feel like throwing on a t-shirt in shorts. But that is the only, I think that's gonna be the only other things that I bring. And I think I'm gonna wear the sneakers to the sporting event because I like to wear clothes toed shoes when I'm sitting. You know what I mean? In seats. And

Kate: I don't wanna get in a someone's beer spills behind you and

Doree: Some, Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So I'll wear the sneakers and then Monday I leave Monday night, I'll wear one of the dresses during the day, then I'll change into my plane outfit and be on my way. Well also, I think I'm also gonna wear a denim jacket on the plane. I don't think it's going to be that chilly, but I do also, I like having the option of just having a jacket.

Kate: I mean this kind of falls in line with I think what I discussed in a recent new forever 35 newsletter, which is my obsession with Patagonia's mini MLC backpack, <affirmative> suitcase, backpack <affirmative>. There has been a fe Fe, this is the word, I can never say

Doree: Fe fetishization.

Kate: Fetishization

Doree: Fetishization. Yeah. I can hardly say it either

Kate: Of the carry on unpacking experience. There is this kind of obsessive quality with how light can I go? Or how much shit can I cram in and still get on a plane. I am obsessed and I'm one of them. I'm obsessed with this. But that backpack is perfect for this kinda travel. And I just love the idea of seeing how light you can go. And here's my question for you. What are your sneakers? Are they your Nike Air Max platforms? Are they a Roths?

Doree: Yeah, I think I'm gonna wear my Nike Air Force one s

Kate: Air Force, Not Air Max, excuse me. Air Force one

Doree: S, not Air Max.

Kate: And then you've got

Doree: Sands. Yeah. And then I have sandals. I do love wearing my on clouds for travel cuz they're very light. But I also like to have a little bit of a more stylish sneaker available for me in this kind of scenario. And I don't wanna have to pack the Air Force ones are bulky. I don't wanna have to pack those will take up valuable real estate. And I'm not planning on working out. So I don't need to bring sneakers. I can run in because that's just not gonna happen. So can I

Kate: Ask a question on this topic for you?

Doree: Yeah.

Kate: What is in your mind, the perfect airplane travel outfit? What are the things it needs to have? Cause you mentioned a pant that was too heavy. I know what you're talking about. You need the perfect weight of clothing because you could either be roasting hot on a plane or freezing cold <affirmative> <affirmative>.

You need comfort. We're not wearing a tight jean with no elastic. You need layers,

Doree: <affirmative>.

Kate: You need, in my opinion, a very comfortable wireless bra

Doree: <affirmative>.

Kate: You need pockets,

Doree: <affirmative>.

Kate: Is there anything else that makes up this perfect plain outfit? You need a touch of style? Do we want a touch of style?

Doree: Well see that's the thing. I kind of do want just a soup song of style.

Kate: The plain outfit that I bought in April was by Allo Yoga. And I am glad that I bought it because I ended up living in the outfit because I got Covid on that trip and I basically wore that outfit the entire week I had,

Yeah. And I had bought it. I was a cute plane outfit. I'm having anxiety, I'll spend money on this. And then it ended up being something that I have worn a lot. But it's a matching shirt and pant with a tank top. With a shelf bra in it. And I've traveled in that outfit now a lot. And I like, it feels like the right amount. Although the tank top is a little bit revealing with my big old jugs and I would probably wear a bra with it if I ever were gonna take it off. But that's my plain outfit.

Doree: So mine is not dissimilar. I got some stuff at vor.

Kate: How do we say that can tell me? And they can get in touch and weigh in.

Doree: <laugh> vor. Who came up with this? I say

Kate: Vri. Yeah, yeah. Come on.

Doree: I got a pair of not their classic performance joggers that everyone is obsessed with. I got a pair of their Lux Harem pants. No, wait, they're moodra pants. I got their Moodra pants. They're a moodra harem pan here Kate, I'm going to send you the link.

Kate: Thank you. And God, I hate the term harem pant.

Doree: Yeah. It's just not great. Or

Kate: If could come up with something else. Right guys? Okay.

Doree: Oh, here's what I like about these pants. They have a wide I a wide elastic waistband. A wide stretchy waistband. Because sometimes even an elastic waist waistband, if it's too narrow, it can kind of dig into you in a way.

Kate: Oh yeah. My stomach will flop over it in a way that's not comfortable. I need something that goes all the way up to basically the beginning of my boobs.

Doree: Exactly. So I got a pair of these, they are super comfortable. I got the large medium fit, but I felt like, okay, the medium actually fit the way that they show on the model <affirmative>. But I didn't love how they felt a little fitted on the calf and I didn't love that. So on me, the largest were a little bit looser in the leg and I just felt like that was a better sort of vibe for what I was going for. And then I got a matching tank with a built in bra. Oh, I'm loving this. Okay.

Kate: Which

Doree: You sort of influenced me.

Kate: You

Doree: Don't say on No, I do say I'm trying to find it. But anyway, yes, the Moodra plyo tank, which is kind of a matching tank. And what I liked about it also, like you said, we both have big jugs. It covers the jugs.

Kate: That's the, Ooh, this is cute. Oh no, I might be copying this outfit. Did you get a medium in this?

Doree: It's a good one, Kate.

Kate: This is a good outfit. You got a large, Okay, so I would probably go into the Excel zone. Okay. Hot tip. I could talk about this for five hours. I realize we are having the most gentle podcast conversation just about travel clothes. But truly, I could literally think about this. Why this is the perfect escape from all the other shit in the world is the world. That world is rough out there. And then you got a sweatshirt

Doree: Then this is

Kate: A cute look. Do.

Doree: Oh, I got a sweatshirt. So I got a slightly cropped pullover hooded sweatshirt that is, and it's very thin, which to me is the key. I did not want anything too thick.

Kate: Don't get this those, that thick fabric. Yeah. Oh, I

Doree: Do. Now I am wondering if I will be annoyed that it is a pullover jury is still out. Would I have preferred a zip up? I don't know. But the zip up that they had in store at least. Cause I did. I went to the store also. I tried all the stuff on the zip up were kind of oversized and I wanted something. I like the kind of slightly cropped look. So I got this, but it all looks cute if I do say so myself. So I don't know. We'll see.

Kate: You should say. You should say. So I will also wanna add, I can't find it. I'm trying to find the link. But over in the G Thanks. Just bought it Podcast Facebook group. I have been seeing some very comfortable travel pants recommended that looks like they're an Amazon buy, but I wanted to try to find that link to share. So if I can dig it up, I will. But that's a great spot for travel outfit Rex. I go there a lot. Yes, Caroline really has.

Doree: I

Kate: Actually went, the market covered there.

Doree: I actually went to their Facebook group and did some searching.

Kate: Yeah, that's a good spot. Well, we should take a break because

Doree: Oh yeah, let's do

Kate: That. We basically talked for the length of a plane trip here about this topic. But <laugh>, this is what I need. Honestly, I've had, as I told you, I've had three hours of sleep. I'm not my best self, but this is what I need. This is very comforting to talk about thin material pants.

Doree: Hey, I'm here for you.

Kate: All right, well let's take a break and

Doree: We'll be back. B r b

Kate: Doree. We've got some just fun from some listeners here. We received this text message and I, I'm intrigued by this especially cuz I literally just put body oil all over my body. This person wrote, only this community will appreciate this story. I got a body oil recently wore a cute tank to work the other day. So I oiled up my arms and shoulders to make them look nice and moisturized. Cut to the next day. And I spotted these weird marks on my coworker's wall. She was out that day. So I started investigating thinking water leak or something bad. And gross. Turns out I just sat there the day I oiled up and left nasty marks on her wall. She was just too nice to say anything. Time to find out what gets oil off the wall. Huh? I have so many questions. My first question is, were you sitting erect against a wall with your upper arms pressed against it? Number one, how did this happen?

Doree: Also, where was this in? Was it at your office? And if so, do they have a closed door office? What kind of wall are we talking about?

Kate: <laugh>, right? Is this a cubicle wall? Is this a painted wall? I'm obsessed with the wall.

Doree: Me too. <laugh>.

Kate: Part of me that thinks that you're putting blame on yourself and this is not really, How do you know it was you?

Doree: I mean, it sounds like it was this person.

Kate: You think it was their oil? Okay. I dunno. I just put a bunch of body oil on and I almost wanna go sit against a wall and do a wall sit and see if anything wipes off. I just am having a hard time imagining, let's set the scene. You wake up, you put the body oil on, and you go to work. This isn't least like an hour or two after. You're not oiling in the office, I assume, right? It's not a fresh oil. Again, why am I obsessed with this? It's the three hours of sleep, but I just need more information from this listener.

Doree: Yeah. I do not have a clear picture in my mind of how this happened, quite frankly,

Kate: Nor I nor I. But I mean, I love that, that this is a safe space to share and to just let us dig in. I will say, what I would suggest is buying some of those Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponges. Those things have gotten off so much crap off our walls. I'm talking permanent marker. I'm talking crayon. I mean, just so much stuff. I love those things. They, I don't know what's in them because it's magic, but they work.

Doree: <affirmative>, <affirmative>, <affirmative>. Okay,

Kate: Anyway, more info needed. Please follow up.

Doree: All right. We have another text on a completely different topic.

Hello. Long time, first time. I'm catching up on episodes. I'm in May, 2022. Keep it Poor professional <laugh>, someone wrote in about pregnancy induced carpal tunnel. I know the advice is late, but maybe it'll help someone else. I'm a high risk and postpartum RN and also dealt with this myself. Those experiencing this should get a hand therapy referral. They'll likely need compression sleeves to help because pregnancy induced carpal tunnel is caused by swelling, fluid and the resulting irritation slash inflammation. But the extra pressure puts on the nerve. It is generally not from poor kinesthetics slash ergonomics with typing alternating warm and ice baths as advised by hand. Therapists help me a lot because it helps the lymphatic system pump the extra fluid. But the compression sleeves were a game changer too. Thankfully, it resolves after delivery, but generally takes the same amount of time as the duration for which one had it in pregnancy. Hope this is helpful, despite being three months late. So congratulations to that listener.

Kate: Thank you. We welcome all late follow ups. In fact, we get another, We have another late follow up coming up. I am actually, I'm worried I'm getting a little bit of carpal tunnel or something in one of my hands.

Doree: Oh yeah. I feel like it's a constant. Am I getting carpal tunnel

Kate: <laugh>? Yes. Always kind of trying to word it off. Yes, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. Same warmth. Well, thank you listener.

Doree: Yeah, thank you for this.

Kate: Okay, are you ready for this next text message story?

Doree: I sure am

Kate: Because the ranger has followed up. Do you remember the ranger?

Doree: The park ranger?

Kate: The park ranger? We have an actual national park ranger who listens to

Doree: Podcasts. I do. This is, yes. This is all coming back to me now.

Kate: And they wear one of those big old ranger hats and their hair was getting tangled in the hat.

Doree: Yes, yes, yes. Thank you. Now I recall

Kate: Those ranger hats look hefty. They look heavy and hot and I can imagine aren't the most comfortable. I'm thinking, just thinking it's 105 degrees. I'm imagining what it's like wearing a ranger hat. But anyway, this ranger sent us an update. They wrote to us, I'm super behind on podcasts, and a few weeks ago was listening to Forever 35 as I cleaned. When from the other room I heard Doree's voice saying something about neat tides. I listened to closer to hear that it was in the context of New York Times crosswords and the obscurity of some of their word choices. But still, as a boat captain, my salty little heart was warmed to hear you discussing tides I listened on with a bit more focus. And later in the episode, heard that answer my question? Excuse me. Heard that answer to my question about how to reduce hair damage and tingling when I wear my ranger hat for work. I so appreciated your feedback and after days of thinking on it, decided I should try it out and cut my hair. This sounds small, but I've always been resistant to cutting my long hair. I started by only cutting off maybe six inches and a few days later, cut off two more. It's still on the longer side, but even this change has made a big difference in how healthy it is and how easy it is to detangle at the end of the day. Maybe I'll even go shorter soon. Exclamation point question mark.

Doree: I

Kate: Really appreciate the push to try something a bit different. I'm so happy I did and I don't think I would have without your advice.

Doree: <laugh>. Wow,

Kate: We did it.

Doree: I love this. I love this update.

Kate: I also just wanna note, it doesn't sound small to cut your hair. That is a big change and a big, I don't know. I think it's a big deal and I think you can honor that also. Six inches is a ton of hair.

Doree: It is a ton of hair. And I was just gonna say it was a big enough deal that they wrote into us <laugh>. You know what

Kate: I mean? Yeah. I mean, I've grown my hair out over the last couple of years and I've had hair, I've had super short, not pixie cuts, but very short above the ear of kind of boish haircuts. And I've had very long hair and I'm feeling I can't even bring myself to cut it right now for whatever reason. So there's no shame in that game. Any sort of change. That is a lot.

Doree: <affirmative>,

Kate: <affirmative>. So congrats to you.

Doree: All right, Kate let's take another short break and we'll be right back. All right, we have returned. Someone wrote in May I suggest soup Sunday when fall slash winter roll around. Yes. Sunday is soup, stews or sushi.

Kate: Yeah, that's a perfect choice.

Doree: So yes, it has been way too warm to do soup. So I agree. Soup is perfect for fall and winter

Kate: In my house. It hasn't been too warm to do soup. And we made clam chowder the other night for dinner.

Doree: You did?

Kate: Yeah. We made clam chowder. Okay. I don't know. My kids love clam chowder and I am so sick of cooking. And I was like, Well, it's gonna only gonna be 90 something degrees. Might as well have a chowder. So yeah, we made a clam chowder.

Doree: Okay,

Kate: What? All right. Can I shout out a cookbook? The Cooks Illustrated the best 30 minute recipe cookbook has saved my life these last couple of weeks. I cannot recommend it enough. And the clam chatter recipe was in there, and the meals truly only take 30 minutes, which I feel like is a

Doree: <affirmative>

Kate: Large problem in many of these situations. You know what I'm saying? A lot of times the cookbooks claim one thing, but they don't actually do it. So yes.

Doree: All right. Yes.

Kate: So we were very dorky about some per plus shampoos, like two in one shampoos. Do you recall us being kind of dorky about shampoos?

Doree: Were we dorky about them?

Voicemail: <laugh>,

Doree: Maybe

Kate: I'm projecting, maybe I'm projecting. But we were chatting about the two in ones

Doree: <affirmative>

Kate: <affirmative> and some listeners wanted to weigh in.

Doree: Okay, here we go.

Voicemail: Hey, Kaden Dore. This is Laura from Berlin. I had a positive pod moment when you two were talking about two in one shampoo. So my story, I was in grad school, I was working at the library and one of my jobs was to put the newspapers on the big wooden sticks. And so sometimes when I was doing that, I would go through the coupons to save some cash while I was in grad school. And one day I was doing that with my manager. She was at the table with me and I was clipping a coupon for Head and Shoulders two and one because that's what I used on my hair. And she starts laughing her head off because I guess she was really interested in why. Oh, she always thought my hair was so shiny <laugh> and it cracked her up that it was because of Head and Shoulders shampoo. I don't use it anymore because I've moved to Germany and the water's really hard here. And it, like what you were saying, tune ones in buildup made it hard. But I'm tempted to maybe bust it out again for the Scalp Health. Anyway, that's all. Have a good rest of your day. Bye.

Doree: Okay.

Kate: The two in one fans are coming out of the woodwork.

Doree: They really are.

Kate: You've been here all along, but why haven't you spoken up about these two and one, especially about the head and shoulders?

Doree: I mean, I might

Kate: Be biasing. Okay,

Doree: They're coming out the woodwork.

Kate: They are. They're coming outta the woodwork. All right. Also, wait, can I just throw something out into the mix? Am I imagining things or did Head and Shoulders commercials used to kind of have a sexy innuendo where a hot man would get dandruff and a woman used to dust it off his shoulder and then he would use Head and Shoulders and he wouldn't have DF anymore. Am I making this up?

Doree: Do you remember having shoulders commercials? I remember the Herbal Essence's commercials being not, It wasn't even innuendo. It was full on sexual.

Kate: Yes. Well, those were just women orgasming as they showered, which was Yes, exactly. Yeah. I'm gonna do some research cuz I do feel like there was some sort of weird sexiness, which insinuated that Dan Ruff was essentially gonna neg you from hooking up. Yeah. <laugh>. Which spoiler alert, it's never bothered me. Alright, well should we listen to another voicemail? Yes, indeed.

Voicemail: Hey Cat. And do, I was just listening to the most recent mini episode where you made your own shampoo commercial and oh my goodness. That was the funniest thing I've ever heard. And I think it should be a recurring how Doree's Hotel is. It's like every now and then you randomly do an ad pretend and you just goof on all the funny things. I hope that wouldn't hurt your ad revenue and make people not wanna run ads with you. But my goodness was a delightful I love that it would spoil fit in that preservative. Okay. That was a treat. Love you. Bye.

Kate: I mean, there is a long parody tradition of people doing fake ads Saturday Live. Yeah. CTV and living color. <affirmative> mad tv. Yeah, certainly. I don't think we would offend any advertise unless we were mocking their products, but that's not our vibe. But yeah, we could do some more pretend shampoo products. I went back and listened to this after this listener mentioned it, and I did have a good laugh to myself imagining us creating like a disruptor shampoo and conditioner two and one. Totally. That really, because that is basically what it goes on in the beauty industry every day. It really made, it really gave me a good chuckle. So maybe we'll do it for real. Okay. Let's get on that <laugh>. Okay. We'll add it to the list. All right. Well listen, Doree, thanks for doing this podcast with me. It's been very fun. Oh, always, Kate. All right, well T T Y L. Bye. Bye.
