Best of High/Low: High Edition
The best of Kate and Doree's high/low recommendations are back! We've rounded up the best splurge items mentioned on the podcast (thus far); check out the goods below.
Skincare
In episode 3, Kate and Doree both discuss the skin smoothing, weird smelling marvel that is Sunday Riley Good Genes. Yes, Doree's husband did remark on it's odd scent while trying to comfort her after a night terror, but both women agree that it clears up dull looking skin. And Doree likes to pair this serum with...
Doree mentions Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Oil (half of the Night Bright Duo) in episode 3 as part of her nightly routine. She loves the feel and effect of the Marula oil, though in episode 12, she finds a The Ordinary dupe that may be just as good. But, if you don't want to deal with The Ordinary CEO's weirdness and want to give the Drunk Elephant version a test drive, this duo is a more affordable option.
(Note: The kit Kate bought is no longer available, but this kit is very similar and has sample sized versions of the moisturizer and a few extra items)
Kate didn't want to love pricey Tata Harper products, but after trying the Glow for It Kit, she had to admit that the stuff is pretty amazing. Kate's endorsement in episode 2 convinced Doree to give the kit a try. Now, they both dream about owning a full-sized bottle of Tata Harper moisturizer, though neither have taken the plunge -- yet.
In episode 4, Kate mentions experimenting with a new fancy cleanser by the fun-to-say Tata Harper. The gentle exfoliating cleanser is good for all skin types and Kate's enjoying the feel of this fancier product.
Makeup
Doree went into the Tom Ford outlet store and walked out with a pretty pricey lip stick (full story in episode 7). Despite the hefty price tag, she loves the color and finds it incredibly smooth and nice to wear. Sephora sells the Ford Lip for $4 cheaper than Doree paid at the outlet store.
Kate's already bought this twice, which means a lot coming from a woman who uses eye makeup for years on end (which she talks about briefly in episode 12). The creamy eye shadow has a smooth application and leaves you with a light, shimmery finish. It glimmers without being obnoxious and Kate gets compliments on the color all the time.
This is the best foundation that Doree's ever used. In the debut episode, she talks about the Armani foundation being the cornerstone of her makeup routine. Though she'll skimp on shower products or other makeup items, she highly recommends spending a little more on a foundation that you really love. "I'll use it forever" she says.
It might look like it a 90s relic, but this Revlon tool dries, straightens, and adds volume to Kate's hair in about 5 minutes. In episode 7, she says this one-step dryer is almost as good as a blowout. Though Kate loves the thing, Doree confessed in episode 15 that she is not a fan (and might want to try another high end dryer — the Dyson).
